Phosphate (or passivation for NdFeB magnet) provides temporary protection for NdFeB surface against oxidation. Applications in which the magnets are installed within a sealed environment are also suitable to use phosphate. Though insignificant to the whole magnet cost, it is the cheapest form of surface treatment of NdFeB magnets.
